Manatee Viewing

Manatees and Dugongs are shy creatures inhabiting the muddy and swampy coastal areas of the temperate and tropical regions of the world. They may be seen in clearer waters, but if so it is usually shallow water and they spend most of their time on the bottom. Best viewing is where they are close to snorkelling and/or dive sites. If they are encountered in river estuaries, swamps or mangroves, the sightings are unclear usually and not particularly satisfying.
This creates obvious problems for viewing these creatures, and since they are highly endangered, care must be taken when looking for them not to disturb or harass them in any way.
