South African Harbour

South African Harbour

There are several large Harbours or Ports along the South African coastline, and numerous small harbours, slipways and shelters. The majority of the actual harbours were developed for the smalll fishing vessels serving a once thriving fishing industry, and slipways were put in the less suitable areas for trailer boat launches.

A lot of the smaller harbours have been developed as tourism attractions, with eating and drinking facilities, curio shops and booking offices for boat trips and other excursions. The harbour itself is usually a mix of pleasure craft and small fishing vessels.
