South Africa's East Coast (known as the Elephant Coast in Maputoland) is the only area where turtle nesting occurs. Turtles are found in the waters all around South Africa, but these are their only breeding sites and where Turtle Tours are held.

Turtles found are the Loggerhead Turtle and Leatherback Turtle

Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal on the far north eastern coast of South Africa offers some of the best turtle viewing in the world.

In season, between November and March each year, the giant Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles can be seen nesting on pristine beaches. The leatherback turtle, Dermochelys coriacea is the largest of all living sea turtles and the largest reptile behind the crocodile.

Tours are a nocturnal either by doing an escourted beach walk or by driven 4X4 safari.
Other creatures seen on these tours are the ghost crabs that scuttle along the night sands.
